One of my malamute friends chilling on a rapidly-melting pile of snow

Fa(t)shion
-Check out this master list of plus size stores that I contributed to!
-Melbourne fatshionistas, check out this plus market.
-Eloquii is back! They’re still expensive, but they have some really cute stuff, like this sequin skirt.
Leah writes about three blogs she recommends (including mine, yay!).

Fat Acceptance
-A new study suggests that loneliness is worse for our health than “obesity,” and Lindy West’s analysis is BRILLIANT. Seriously, read it and spread it as widely as you can. It’s the kind of piece that could make a lot of people have an “a-ha!” moment about fatness.
Being fat vs. having fat.
-If you are in Liverpool, UK, check out this fat-positive picnic–it looks so fun.
-Marilyn Wann makes some very good points about fatness, health, and bullying.
-Ragen Chastain interviews Virgie Tovar, Hanne Blank, and Rebecca Weinstein about fat sex. It’s a great conversation, except for this quote from Weinstein: “No one I talked to who liked themselves the way they are had any trouble finding partners, or love, or whatever it was they were looking for.” UGH. Sometimes it’s hard to find partners/relationships/etc just because it’s hard–because finding the right person is sheer dumb luck, no matter how comfortable you feel in your body. Having good self-esteem and body-image doesn’t magically make the right partner for you appear, even if it does make the process of looking less stressful.
-Love Thy Fatness writes about how her cat became stressed out when his food was restricted, and how it caused an epiphany about her own struggles with disordered eating and restriction.

Ragen’s fat cabaret group is amazing:

#FatshionFebruary, day 22: more dark floral

Because there’s no such thing as too much dark floral.

This outfit illustrates the ridiculousness of the weather we’ve been having lately. It was in the 50’s yesterday, warm enough to go out with bare legs and arms–but there were still slushy areas on the sidewalks, hence the snow boots. New England, I’ve lived in you my entire life and sometimes I still don’t understand you.

top: Dots, skirt: SWAK, jacket: Torrid via clothing swap, snow boots: present from my mom, hair bow: Target?, necklace and earrings: Domino Dollhouse, sunglasses: Sweet and Lovely, bracelets: Deb, Torrid, and So Good

I’m so in love with this pleather jacket–it will be one of my spring wardrobe staples, for sure.

Instead of #FatshionFebruary 20 and 21, have some cute animals and “Let It Go” covers

I’ve been sick for the last few days, and while I managed to pull together outfits on Monday and Tuesday, I haven’t felt up for even thinking about changing out of my pajamas yesterday and today.

It’s unfortunate timing, because I have so many clothing swap finds that I would love to turn into Fatshion Feb outfits. But such is life. So in lieu of cute outfits, I will give you cute pictures of animals I’ve hung out with recently.

This is Cody, my adorable beagle/basset hound friend who I dog-sit for. Isn’t he the cutest?

I love when dogs sleep all curled up in a ball. 🙂

#FatshionFebruary, day 19: Lagenlook in pink and coral

The inspiration for this look was the spring collection of Gudrun Sjoden, a Swedish brand that I found through Already Pretty and am quickly developing a style-crush on.

Pink and orange dress: Marimekko (!) via thrift store, coral dress: SWAK via clothing swap, cardigan: Old Navy via the Big Thrifty, gauchos: eBay, socks: Sock Dreams, sneakers: Simply Be, necklace: present from a relative, earrings: from a gift shop in Israel

#FatshionFebruary, day 18: forbidden, adorable love

What’s cuter than a narwhal and a unicorn in love? Nothing that I know of.

shirt: TeeTurtle (present from Steve), narwhal figurine: Shana Logic (present from me to Steve), skirt: made by a friend (two small unicorn skirts that I bought at the Buffalo Exchange, sewn together), flip-flops: Old Navy, hair bow: Crown and Glory, necklace: So Good

#FatshionFebruary, day 17: out of this world

Almost finished catching up on my outfits from the last few days…

Dress: Domino Dollhouse, teggings and belt: Re/Dress, boots: Target, shoe clips: Head Full of Feathers, necklace: a store whose name I don’t remember in Jamaica Plain, earrings: Faces, flower crown: Crown & Glory, heart ring: Shana Logic

Do I ever miss an opportunity to twirl around in the middle of the street? Of course not.

#FatshionFebruary, day 16: living up to my blog’s name

Tank top: Lane Bryant via clothing swap, tutu: Target, teggings: Re/Dress, jacket: Kohl’s, boots: present from my mom, shoe clips: Head Full of Feathers, necklace: eBay, earrings: The Brookline Booksmith (yes, it’s a bookstore that also sells tchotchkes and jewelry), tiny hat: Cloak & Dagger Creations, bracelets: Deb Shops, Torrid, and So Good (have I ever posted an outfit that didn’t have at least one accessory from So Good? I doubt it.)

I wore this for a day of adventures in Boston, which included seeing the pom-pom tree and cool ice formations that I posted in my links roundup. Even though I feel like I’ve lived in the Boston area forever, and sometimes I get terrible wanderlust, I still enjoy a good day of romping around my own city and noticing as many quirky and fun details as I can.

#FatshionFebruary, day 15: Cuteness as self-care

Sometimes self-care involves wearing the most comfortable clothing possible (i.e., sweatpants and a t-shirt), not bothering with makeup, and not giving a shit about how I look. Other times, it entails playing dress-up to cheer myself up.

Saturday was one of the times. I went for the boldest, brightest, cupcakey-est outfit I could come up with. And yes, I wore it to sit around the house reading a book and playing around on the internet.

Dress and leggings: Domino Dollhouse, shoes: Sugar Shoes via eBay, sweater: ASOS (straight size 14), bow: The Velvet Village, necklace: Kuma Crafts, earrings and rose ring: Claire’s, pink bangles: Deb Shops, rainbow bangle and rhinestone wristband: So Good, Lucite ring: H&M, hot pink eyeshadow: Manic Panic, Lisa Frank tote bag: gizmo2choco

#FatshionFebruary, day 14: love and tutus

Valentine’s Day was really, really hard. Not for the typical reasons that people struggle with the holiday (and that I’ve dealt with in the past), but because it was my surprise! last day of work. Yes, it was shitty timing to have my last day on a holiday that’s supposed to be all about love, flowers, chocolate, and wearing pink.

But it was also a day full of love: both the traditional romantic kind, and the kind I got from my coworkers. I can’t even write this post without crying, because they’re wonderful and I miss them.

Top: Old Navy, tutu and socks (and possibly headband?): Target, leggings: American Apparel, shoes: Naot (I wore sneakers to work, but changed for my outfit pics), necklace: So Good, earrings: Betsey Johnson via eBay

#FatshionFebruary, day 12: dark floral and leather

Ok, I’m finally starting to catch up on my outfit posts from the past week. (I still have a bunch of outfits from before February, too…I’ll get to those eventually.) This is what I wore for an early Valentine’s Day dinner with Steve. We had originally planned to go out on the 13th to beat the V-Day crowds, but due to a snowstorm, we pushed it a day earlier. This ended up working really well, since I got to enjoy our dinner without the knowledge of my job’s impending end hanging over me.

Dress: H&M (straight size L), teggings: Re/Dress, boots: Target, jacket: Torrid via clothing swap, earrings: Claire’s?, flower crown: Crown & Glory, necklace: my V-day present from Steve last year, from Karen Kavett for DFTBA Records, bracelets: Deb Shops, Torrid, and Macy’s

This dress is one of the very, very few straight size items I own. It’s an L from H&M, and it’s quite tight–but the moment I saw it in the store, I was determined to make it fit. Luckily, it’s very stretchy (unlike most of the pretty straight-sized things in H&M, sigh…it was so depressing to see how varied and colorful the straight size options were compared to the plus size ones. So depressing that I’ve pretty much vowed never to set foot in that store again).
