#FatshionFebruary, day 14: love and tutus

Valentine’s Day was really, really hard. Not for the typical reasons that people struggle with the holiday (and that I’ve dealt with in the past), but because it was my surprise! last day of work. Yes, it was shitty timing to have my last day on a holiday that’s supposed to be all about love, flowers, chocolate, and wearing pink.

But it was also a day full of love: both the traditional romantic kind, and the kind I got from my coworkers. I can’t even write this post without crying, because they’re wonderful and I miss them.

Top: Old Navy, tutu and socks (and possibly headband?): Target, leggings: American Apparel, shoes: Naot (I wore sneakers to work, but changed for my outfit pics), necklace: So Good, earrings: Betsey Johnson via eBay

OOTD: Galaxy leggings, part 1

I was so excited to get my hands on a pair of Domino Dollhouse’s galactic-print leggings. I originally ordered them in a 2x when they first came out, but that turned out to be too big, so I had to exchange them for a 1x–and then wait for them to come back in stock. My pair finally arrived on Christmas Eve, so it felt like a present.

They’re super-comfy, and I love how they look on me, so I’ve already worn them multiple times. Here’s my first outfit–another one will be coming soon!

Shirt: Old Navy, jacket: Kohl’s, leggings: Domino Dollhouse, boots: Target, bow: Crown & Glory, necklace: Claire’s, rainbow bangle and earrings: So Good, spike wristband: Hot Topic, black and silver bangles: Deb and Torrid

OOTD: Friendship is magic

It’s no secret that I love My Little Pony. And I also love Art Nouveau, so I’m a big fan of combining them.

Friday Links, 11/9/12

Today’s edition of Friday Links has been brought to you by Thessaly, one of the two cutest cats ever. (Her sister, Toto, is also adorable, but harder to corral for pictures.)

Fa(t)shion
-My life could use a bit more Melbourne Cup fashion. Actually, a lot more. That tutu and flower crown! Those fascinators! *swoon*
Dots now offers online shopping! Which is exciting because I like their clothes, but the last time I went to their store, I couldn’t try on any of it, as the cashiers were busy ringing up a long line of customers and there was no one to unlock the dressing rooms.
-Wardrobe Oxygen has an interview with Desiree, a fabulous older fashionista.  My favorite quote: “Fashion is what talented designers are paid to churn out up to four times a year, in many cases at great personal and emotional expense. Style is the opposite. It’s like slipping into a dream. There’s excitement, fear, hesitation and you learn to fall into yourself.”
-A kitty fascinated by sparkly shoes. Awwwwww.
Sophisticate noir November theme: hosiery (and some awesome shoes too).
Too poor for Old Navy.
7 reasons you should compliment total strangers. I really like doing this, as it brightens people’s day–just like it brightens mine when they compliment my fashion choices.
-A Tumblr of Muslims wearing things.
Fatshionistas in the New York Times!
-A new plus size clothing buying/selling marketplace, Abbey Post, will be launching in December.
Six great +40 fashion blogs.
-DIY: make rhinestone jewelry colorful with acrylic paint.

Friday links, 11/2/12

Even fence-posts need to stay warm when the weather gets chilly.

I’ve got lots and lots of links for you today, to tide you over for the next month. (And I’m freaking out a little…I love writing but I have so much resistance to get past. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to push through it.)

More Sandy-related links (earlier links here)
Helping victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Why Sandy matters to the election.
-First responders = amazing. If you can, go hug one.
-How to donate and volunteer responsibly.
-NASA warned New York about hurricane danger six years ago.
-The hideous inequality exposed by the hurricane. (This sounds familiar…it’s almost like a similar disaster, with similarly worse effects on poor people, happened in another major city seven years ago.)
-From the Onion: Nation suddenly realizes this just going to be a thing that happens from now on.

A Hello Kitty pumpkin!

-Exciting  news: Fatshion blogger Jessica Dee is starting a clothing line! And it’s full of shiny things.
Nicole and Damien’s gothic handfasting Halloween party – the outfits are amazing.
My top is not out of control.
-Kath of Fat Heffalump gives an example of how not to market to fat customers, and offers to help plus size fashion companies get it right.
Color crush: galactic silver. Love!
-Incredibly gorgeous floral clothing.
Suit or Sari? On professionalism and “ethnic” dressing.
