Fatshion February, day 28: The witch in the enchanted palace

On Saturday, I went out with my brother and Steve for a dinner at Max Brenner, an awesome chocolate-themed restaurant. On the way there, we stopped at the Fairmont Copley Plaza to visit Carly the adorable pup and take a few outfit pictures. I wish I could take outfit pictures in a fancy hotel every day…

Fatshion February, day 27: pink, black, and my signature pink poof

This is what I wore for work on Friday, and then out for a friend’s birthday dinner. I meant to bring my black sequined cardigan to change into for the evening, but forgot to throw it in my bag. At least I remembered to bring my gold glitter eyeliner! A night out without sparkly eyes just isn’t as much fun.

Fatshion February, day 26: the blue period, and pink hair!

First off, some exciting news: the tips of my hair are now pink again! I think of brown + pink hair as my natural state, so it’s weird to me that I’ve been without it for as long as I’ve been blogging, and as long as I’ve known Steve too. Now that I’ve finally had a stable job for a while, and as far as I know there’s no rule against having a small section of colorful hair (which is mostly hidden anyway, since I usually wear my hair up at work), I decided to go back to my beloved pink. I’m also excited about having pink tips for our wedding–they’ll go perfectly with the white and pink ombre dress I have in mind.

Behold the true me:

And now, here’s the outfit I wore yesterday (before I re-dyed the tips to get the brighter color you see above). I had my hair in a bun all day at work, and I don’t think anyone even noticed.

Fatshion February, day 25: satin and tulle

I was going through my closet and realized I hadn’t worn this top in forever, so it was about time to wear it again. The tulle skirt is one of my favorites, although it’s a bit too big–if I’m doing a lot of walking, I have to be careful to keep it from falling down.

Fatshion February, day 24: Two shades of gray, and a few of purple

Huzzah! I finally managed to get myself to wear a decorative scarf. I got this one at a cute, quirky store in Manhattan over Valentine’s weekend, and it was the perfect accessory to round out this eggplant and fuchsia outfit. I love its metallic sheen and bubble-y texture.

The fascinator is also from New York, from the trip Steve and I took two years ago. I went back to the same store this time–a small rockabilly-themed boutique in the East Village–but didn’t find anything I liked.

Fatshion February, day 23: black, floral, and blush

Blog note: Sorry it’s been taking me a bit longer than usual to respond to comments lately. Between trying to keep up with Fatshion February and everything else going on, not to mention general winter exhaustion, I just haven’t had a lot of spare time or energy. But I appreciate all of your recent comments, especially the congratulations on my engagement post (squeeee!), and I will respond eventually.

I wish I had a commenting system like Disqus that would email people when I respond to their comments, but my computer sometimes has trouble with Disqus, and I’ve heard bad things from other bloggers who have tried using it. So for now, until I find a better alternative, I’m sticking with WordPress’ standard commenting system. If you check “notify me of new comments via email” when you comment, you should get notified of my response (although I can’t guarantee it since I haven’t tried myself, unfortunately, and you’ll also get emails about other comments on the same post).

This tulle miniskirt is an old favorite, from the straight size section at Target years ago. I love pairing it with black pieces and a matching floral hairclip. The hair flower is also old–in fact, it’s one of the first few flower clips I ever bought, and I still love it.

Fatshion February, day 22: glamming it up

On Sunday night, Maggie and Jon invited us over to watch the Oscars. I was exhausted from an ill-fated attempt to shovel out a parking space in our driveway, and almost stayed in, but managed to pull together a quick fancy outfit. As usual, Maggie and I matched. 🙂

Unfortunately, the Oscars were terrifically boring. I enjoyed the company and the (pink!) champagne, but I realized that watching award shows is just not my thing. There’s so much talking, and most of it is about movies I haven’t seen. I did enjoy Neil Patrick Harris and Anna Kendrick’s musical number at the beginning–if only NPH had continued hosting in a musical fashion, I might have enjoyed it more.

I also liked looking at all the pretty dresses, but that could’ve been done just as easily by looking at pictures online the next day. My favorite was Keira Knightley’s gorgeous, ethereal, embroidered blush pink gown–wasn’t it just the dreamiest dress ever? I also liked Oprah’s tulle dress, Viola Davis’ gorgeous dusty rose number, Tegan and Sara’s flapper goth outfits, and Cheryl Strayed’s glamorous turquoise gown.

Fatshion February, day 21: Purple and black

My friend Maggie and I always match. I don’t even know how we do it. We never coordinate our outfits in advance, but we always end up wearing similar color schemes. On Saturday, when I had a few people over to hang out and watch Star Trek and Firefly, we were both wearing black and purple.

Fatshion February, day 19: Black and white

Sometimes I wish Fatshion February took place in April or May instead. I’ve been wearing the same three pairs of leggings all month because they’re warm, and I know that once the weather warms up a bit, I’ll be wearing a much more diverse selection of colors and patterns. It’s also been too cold to take outfit pictures outside (and too dark by the time I get home from work anyway).

I really, really, really can’t wait for spring. For so many reasons.

Fatshion February, day 16: our final day in New York

On Monday, I didn’t even bother putting together a real outfit because I was sick of the cold, and of having to constantly bundle and unbundle. So I wore a Torrid top, Yours pants (with leggings underneath again), and my C&G heart headband, but no other jewelry or makeup.

Steve and I went to the Museum of Natural History–which, as Steve pointed out, is like a zoo but with dead animals.
