Birthday OOTD: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

One of my favorite stylistic tricks is shameless copying. So when I came across this picture of an extremely bejeweled Betsey Johnson, I couldn’t help but put my own twist on it. If some jewelry is good, then more is better, right? 😉

Dress and skirt (gray with gold trim, worn under dress): ASOS Curve,  tiara: Kmart, pink pearl necklace: Claire’s, Tutus and Tiny Hats custom necklace: DiDepux, clear heart necklace and rhinestone metallic bangle: Wet Seal, pink plastic necklace: thrifted, black pearl necklace: gift from my grandmother, silver and pink bangles: Deb, pins: gift from a friend, heart charm necklace and earrings: Domino Dollhouse, tiny hat, roses and rhinestone necklace, and pink rhinestone bracelet: So Good, rings: really really old

These pictures are from the evening part of my birthday party. I’ll post pictures from the beach and dinner separately!

August wishlist: birthday edition

In honor of my birthday, which is coming up tomorrow–can you believe I’m going to be 28?!–I’ve put together a compilation of things I’d love to get if a magical fairy fatmother showed up waving her wand at my front door.

If I actually had a fairy fatmother, the first thing I’d ask for would be a stable, satisfying job with good pay and benefits–but pretty things are much more fun to fantasize about.

You can click each image to go to the Polyvore set, which has the details.

August wishlist 1

Cats, dogs, roses, rainbows…some things really haven’t changed in the last twenty years.

August wishlist 2

I SO want these Nirvana and Courtney Love dresses from Vera’s Eye Candy, which I found through Betties N Brimstone–who had a dress custom-made in her size. Nirvana and Hole were a big part of my adolescent years, and I’d love to be able to wear that history on my body.

Vera’s Eye Candy also carries various items in the same fabrics as Domino Dollhouse – for example, this galaxy top and dress, and this rainbow digital print dress.

August wishlist 3

Another thing I would love to have, but that Polyvore wouldn’t let me clip, is a custom illustration by Natalie Perkins. Here are a few of my favorites that she’s drawn so far (via FLI’s Facebook page)–aren’t they gorgeous?

Watch City Steampunk Festival

Last weekend, I finally made it to the annual steampunk festival in Waltham. And I’m so glad I did. It was an alt-fatshionista’s dream.

Art, music, bellydancing, amazing costumes, tiny hats galore…and I even met the Doctor, who must have been taking a break from saving the world to attend the festival.

Here are a few pictures from the day, including some fa(t)shion highlights. For more, check out my Facebook photo album (which is public, so you can view it even if you’re not on FB).

I met this fabulous lady dressed in steampunk Lolita, and exchanged blog info with her. She has a Tumblr,  which you should check out if you enjoy the fusion of Lolita and other styles.

You know what happens when you leave two tiny hats alone together…

They make babies!

Now my tiny hat family has an even tinier, ridiculously adorable addition.

(The real story behind its origins: I went to the Buffalo Exchange to sell some clothing and accessories, and used the store credit I received to buy, among other things, this tiniest of tiny hats. I was very excited that such thing even existed!)
