Indie spotlight: Crown & Glory’s Glitterati

Still no Fatshion February outfits, as I am still sick (booo). Steve had a cold that involved a terrible weeklong sore throat, and just as he started getting better, I caught it. So I’ve got a painful sore throat, and Boston is still getting hammered by record-breaking amounts of snow that far exceed our infrastructure’s ability to deal. It’s been a long couple of weeks, to say the least.

On a happier note, here are some pictures of my latest Glitterati box! The Glitterati is a monthly subscription box run by Sophie of Crown and Glory. Each box costs £20 (~$30), and contains over £50 (~$76) worth of items. It’s a great way to feed my hair accessory addiction while also supporting an independent craft-maker–like a CSA for sparkly things.

This month’s box is Valentine’s Day-themed–so everything is red and pink and covered in hearts, huzzah!

Fatshion February, day 1: Glitter space cat

It’s Fatshion February, woo! Here’s what I wore yesterday to watch the Puppy Bowl with friends (including Maggie of Curvy Broke Fashion, whose outfit post you can see here). Maggie and I are always on the same fashion wavelength without even trying. 🙂

I wanted to wear something puppy-themed for the occasion, but I realized I didn’t have anything, so I went with the next closest thing: cat accessories. The clutch/makeup bag is too small to really be useful, but I brought it with me for pictures because it was so freaking cute and because it matched the metallic light pink of my headband. I was also wearing my favorite glitter eyeliner, Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal, but it’s hard to see it in the pictures. I’m wearing it here in Spandex, on top of silver eyeshadow, and I also have it in Midnight Cowboy and ACDC. I don’t wear it that often, but I really should because it’s fabulous.

This backpack is my favorite thing ever. I’ve been wearing it almost every day since I bought it, and it never fails to get compliments from complete strangers of every age and gender. It’s also the perfect size for everyday use, although too small for traveling.

OOTD: Metallic and sparkly for New Year’s Eve

I’m a bit late posting my NYE pictures! I didn’t get any traditional outfit pictures, but I did get plenty of photos of my friends and I goofing off at the party Steve and I held–which was a ton of fun.

OOTD: Comfy and casual with a dinosaur on my back

I’m trying to drag myself away from the whole Lena Dunham debacle that’s been taking over the feminist internet, so, here’s an outfit I wore recently on a weekend trip to visit family. On the way there, my brother, Steve, and I stopped to take a walk at a New York state park, which also provided a good background for outfit pictures.

This backpack is the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. I bought it intending to use it for travel, and almost returned it when I saw that it was too small for that purpose–but I’m so glad I didn’t. I’ve started using it for everyday stuff instead of a tote bag, and it’s been wonderful. It’s far more comfortable than carrying a heavy tote bag on one shoulder, and it gets a ridiculous number of compliments. I think I’ve gotten a compliment on it from a stranger nearly every day since I started carrying it, and that makes me so happy.

Clothing swaps are the best. I’ve gotten so many great dresses from them in the past year or so. And this one in particular is so me.  I love that it has a bit of ruching and a slightly tulip-y hem–it’s those little details that make such a difference.

I was so happy when I found this dress on FatToo. I had originally admired it, but was waiting to buy it–and then it went out of stock after the initial run, due to a problem with one of DD’s suppliers. Finding it on a resale community was such a stroke of luck, and it fits perfectly–it’s so comfortable and I love how it looks on me.
