Alternative Curves: Leader of the (’90s Punk Girl) Pack
I missed last month’s Alternative Curves blog hop, since it was only open for a week, but luckily this one is open all month. November’s theme is Leader of the Pack, which I interpreted in a ’90s goth-punk way, inspired mostly by The Craft (which I somehow haven’t seen yet–this must be remedied). I’ve just been itching to wear baby barrettes and combat boots lately, so this was the perfect opportunity!

OOTD: apple-picking in plaid (but not the lumberjack kind)
Apple-picking is my all-time favorite fall activity. Every fall, I get together with a group of friends to do it at least once. This year, we went twice–first to a new place we’d never tried before, and then to our regular apple orchard.
The new orchard was smaller and overall less exciting than our regular spot–which has a petting zoo, a friendly kitty, hay rides, delicious food, and great people-watching–but it was still a lot of fun. (And yes, this was about two months ago. I meant to get the pictures up earlier, but oh well! As the weather gets colder, it’s nice to look back on the early fall days when I could go out in a sleeveless dress.)
Dress: Domino Dollhouse, belt: ASOS Curve, crown: Crown & Glory, studded wristband: PacSun, tattoo wristband: eBay, cameo necklace and earrings: Lithia’s Creations, other necklace: I Am Joolienn, sneakers: Brooks via Zappos, folder: Tulipop
The folder is from Iceland, where I discovered Tulipop and fell in love. It’s a brand of adorable characters who live in a forest, and it’s ubiquitous among the quirky gift shops of Reykjavik. I bought this folder, a few cards to put on my wall, and a small magnet–and was seriously tempted by the Mr. Tree lamp, but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much money. I happened to be carrying some paperwork in the folder on the day we went apple-picking, so I figured why not include it in a picture?
Outfit August, day 23, part 2: plaid, feathers, and rhinestones
After the beach, Steve and I went to my brother’s housewarming party. I didn’t really feel like getting dressed up but I did anyway, and I’m happy with how my outfit came together.
Dress: Domino Dollhouse, vest: Torrid via the Big Thrifty, belt: ASOS Curve, necklace: eBay, earrings and ring: So Good, studded wristband: PacSun, bangles: Torrid and Deb, shoes: Clarks, fascinator: present from Steve’s mom
The party was great! There was much silliness and some late-night singing along to Once More With Feeling. Continue reading
Outfit August, day 14: Plaid n’ pearls
I didn’t have the chance to take any full outfit shots yesterday, but here are a few pictures I snapped while walking along the waterfront before the #NMOS14 vigil.
Dress: Domino Dollhouse, necklace and earrings: So Good, bracelets: Deb, glitter bow: Crown & Glory, sunglasses: Sweet and Lovely
I’m not quite sure what to call this look…preppy glam mermaid? Aquatic flapper punk?
Outfit August Day 1: All ’90s all the time
I’m taking part in Outfit August, a daily outfit challenge similar to Fatshion February. I didn’t take any outfit pictures yesterday, and probably won’t today–I just got in from bellydancing and yoga, and all I want to do is shower and put on pajamas. But here are my pictures from Friday.
I wore this outfit for the going-away party for my friend Autumn, who is moving to Montreal. She and I have bonded over our shared love of ’90s music and culture, so I decided to go all-out ’90s in her honor. (More ’90s fashion coming tomorrow–I scheduled an outfit post with pictures of what I wore to my ’90s party a few weeks ago.)
