No, I’m not enough of a masochist to go shopping on Black Friday. I took these pictures a week and a half ago on a routine Target run.

Have you ever wondered how to dress up a basic Hello Kitty tee?
Wonder no more. It’s as easy as adding a ruffled blazer, a big hair flower, and lots of bling. 😉

Blazer: Talbot’s (gift from my grandmother), t-shirt and jeans: Old Navy, pearls: So Good, earrings: Artifaktori, bangles: Deb and Torrid, rose ring: Claire’s, heart ring: The Toy Chest, hair flower: H&M
I love a good Hello Kitty-based outfit.

Shirt: Old Navy, jeans: H&M+, glitter bow: Crown & Glory, necklace: pendant from Michael’s on a chain, earrings: Faces, rainbow bangle: So Good, black and silver bangles: Deb and Torrid, spike wristband: Hot Topic, pink ring: Kelsea Echo, rose ring: not sure
It’s no secret that I love My Little Pony. And I also love Art Nouveau, so I’m a big fan of combining them.

Shirt: We Love Fine, jeans: Old Navy, purse: not sure, leopard hoodie and mauve jacket: Marshall’s, glitter bow: Crown and Glory, earrings and rainbow bangle: So Good, black and silver bangles: Deb and Torrid, necklace: pendant from Michael’s on a chain
My friend Michi and her friend Lisa recently had an awesome pink-and-black-themed murder mystery birthday party.
I don’t need an excuse to get all glammed up, but I do appreciate one! And this was a fun one.

Me and Michi glamming it up
Michi and Lisa sewed their own outfits, complete with fabulous pink fascinators. It’s hard to see because the picture is a bit blurry (sorry!), but there are tiny tiaras attached to them.
Yesterday, a few of my friends and I went apple-picking. It’s a bit of a tradition–this is the third year we’ve done it at the same farm. They also have a petting zoo, a farm store, a pumpkin patch, a food stand, and a bouncy castle and hayride for kids. It’s a really fun place to spend the afternoon, be silly with friends, and end up with lots of apples.

Have I mentioned how much I love New England?

Heh.
Here’s what I wore:

Shirt: Old Navy, pants: CVS, necklace: Kelsea Echo, heart ring: the Toy Chest, sunglasses and rose ring: Claire’s, earrings: Faces, glitter bow: Crown and Glory, rainbow bangle: So Good
Remember those collages I posted a while back? I have a few more of them, on my fridge. They’re faded from exposure to the sun, but oh well.
I like how they still reflect my style so well, years later.

I want those pyramid stud MaryJanes. And the pink zipper tie.

On Monday, I went to a showing of Amber Benson (aka Tara)’s new movie, Dust Up. Amber herself was there for a Q&A session, and my friends and I got to take pictures with her.

I have…mixed feelings about the movie.
On one hand, the acting was wonderful. Amber, Aaron Gaffey, and Devin Barry had great chemistry. They played refreshingly real, refreshingly real-looking, funny characters.
There were some wonderfully humorous moments–like when Amber’s character, Ella, is asking Aaron’s character, Jack, about how he lost his eye while in the Marines. He tells her it was an IED, and she says, “An in-your-eye device?” I also love the last line of the movie, which I won’t give away in case anyone plans to watch it.
And then there’s the adorable baby, who was played by the director’s daughter. Continue reading
This weekend, Steve and I went to Honk!, a festival of activist marching bands. We didn’t stay long, because unfortunately both of us got overwhelmed by the crowds. But we enjoyed a bit of walking around and listening to the music.
Also, it was a good excuse to get all dressed up (not that I need an excuse). There are not many times when it’s easy to blend into a crowd while wearing rainbow clip-in bangs, striped knee socks, and a spike necklace, but this is one of them. Another one is probably Burning Man, which I hope to attend someday.

Top: Tripp NYC via fatshionxchange, skirt: a vendor at NEFFA, clip-in bangs: I Kick Shins, knee socks: Domino Dollhouse, sneakers: Sugar Shoes via eBay (back in college), pyramid stud wristband: PacSun, round stud wristband: Macy’s, tiny hat and rose ponytail holders: Claire’s, hairclips: a bunch of different places, spike necklace: eBay
While taking outfit pictures, we met an adorable, friendly kitty!

-The Fat Nutritionist on the stereotype that fat people are all binge eaters.
–It’s been a tough week for fat kids in the media.
-An absolutely epic gay wedding in a children’s museum. With a carousel. And two adorable grooms wearing floral suspenders. Seriously, this is just made of awesome. Also, now I want to move into the Please Touch Museum.
–How to make a tutu. I do have to quibble with the assertion that “…a tutu probably isn’t something you’d wear every day,” though.
-Also from Rookie, behind the scenes at Meadham Kirchhoff’s Spring/Summer 2012 show in London. I love that so much of it was inspired by Courtney Love. I used to have some of the same pictures on my teenage bedroom walls–I wish I still had them. Also, the fluffy coats and feather skirts at the end of the slideshow are amazing.
