Mini OOTD: night-time sparkle

plus size outfit glitter and sequins in dark colors

I didn’t get a full picture of this outfit I wore back in mid-December–I don’t even remember what I was wearing on bottom–but I really liked how this selfie came out. When I posted it on Facebook, one of my friends commented, “You look fantastic, the stars of the Longest Night personified!”

I love when I put together an outfit just because it looks pretty, because I’m drawn to certain pieces, and then my friends come up with interpretations that make so much sense. Maybe I should always crowdsource the meanings behind my outfits. 😉

Outfit August, day 14: Plaid n’ pearls

I didn’t have the chance to take any full outfit shots yesterday, but here are a few pictures I snapped while walking along the waterfront before the #NMOS14 vigil.

I’m not quite sure what to call this look…preppy glam mermaid? Aquatic flapper punk?

#FatshionFebruary, day 5: Snow Queen for a (snow) day

I may be 28, but the announcement of a snow day still fills me with childlike glee–and it’s a great excuse to play dress-up.

#FatshionFebruary, day 4: mermaid casual

Some days you just feel like a mermaid, you know?

Top: thrifted, pants and earrings: Target, necklace: present from a friend, hairclip: Crown & Glory

I love how accessories can add a touch of glamour and whimsy to an otherwise plain outfit. It’s something I need to do, to maintain my sense of self and sparkle when I’m dressed for practicality.

It’s so interesting how different people experience getting dressed differently. The other day, I was talking about clothing with a friend, who mentioned that she loves jobs that require uniforms because when she’s wearing one, she knows exactly what role she is supposed to play. For me, it’s the opposite: I just don’t feel comfortable if I’m not expressing my creativity through my clothes or accessories, even in small ways. It brightens my day and makes the world kinder to me.

This top is one of my favorite recent thrifting finds. It’s versatile and pretty and I love how it fits me. I’ll try to get some better pictures of it when I’m not at work!  Continue reading

OOTD: Hedgehog and leopard

I’m so in love with this t-shirt that Steve got me for Valentine’s Day. It’s a sad hedgie that wants to give out hugs, but no one will hug it because it’s spiky!

Shirt: TeeTurtle, skirt: Torrid, studded wristband: PacSun, pink bangles: Rainbow (or maybe Wet Seal?), leggings: American Apparel, bow: Crown & Glory, earrings: a vendor who came to my college, pearl necklace: So Good, sneakers: Sugar Shoes via eBay, pink cameo ring: Target, heart ring: a toy store in Connecticut when I was 15

OOTD: Purple, black, and a glitter bow

Purple and black is my default cold-weather color combination. They just go together so well, and have such a fall/winter feel.

Shirt: Marshall’s, sweater and necklace: Target, skirt: Deb, leggings: American Apparel, shoes: Naot, hair bow: Crown and Glory

I love wearing my Crown and Glory glitter bows both because they’re a lot of fun, and because they literally always get compliments. When I wore this outfit, I got compliments on my bow from one of my coworkers, and three of the people making the burritos at the place I went to for lunch! It’s nice to know how many people appreciate glitter. 🙂
