These jeans. LOVE. I remember when huge flares were a thing in the late ’90s, and I really hope they come back so that plus size stores will start making them. I want a pair so badly.

OOTD: Friendship is Magic, part 2
Awaiting your latest pony fatshion fix? Well, you’re in luck.
I got this amazing My Little Pony Season 2 cast shirt from We Love Fine, and paired it up with my thrifted wide-leg jeans.

Shirt: We Love Fine, jeans: thrifted, jacket and key necklace: gifted, plastic beaded necklace and bracelets: homemade, green bracelet: This Star Won’t Go Out Foundation, Tetris bracelet: Par Amour Design on Etsy (shop no longer available) , purse and rose ring: not sure, pink bangles: Deb, rhinestone bangle: Wet Seal, rhinestone stretchy bracelet: Forever 21, heart ring: the Toy Chest, headband: eBay, Scrabble tile earrings: Joie de Vivre
OOTD: Pink and black and ’90s all over
Somehow I’ve become old enough that this skirt I got in middle school now feels “vintage.”

Shirt: Old Navy, vest: Torrid via fatshionxchange, skirt: maybe Marshall’s?, shoes: Sugar Shoes via eBay, necklace: gifted, earrings: Claire’s, hat and purse: not sure, wristband: Pacsun, pink ring: Kelsea Echo, claddagh ring: not sure

I got it in either 7th or 8th grade, along with another one in cream and brown. I didn’t wear the cream one much, though, so I gave it away a few years later.
This one, I’ve always loved. And thanks to the powers of elastic waists, it still fits me (which is why I love elastic-waist skirts so much, and hate the ones with zippers, which become too tight or loose with even minor weight fluctuations).
I used to think it was Victorian/goth-y, but now it just screams ’90s to me.
Flashback: Delia*s, part 2
The ’80s have come back in style like five times. It’s about time for the late ’90s/early ’00s to come back.
Especially the sparkly wide-leg jeans. I need some of those in my life.
Earlier catalog scans: Alloy, Girlfriends LA, and Delia*s part 1

Rainbows and unicorns and puppies, oh my!
I’m sick (booo), so I’m just sitting around trying to entertain myself with the internet.
Which has led to looking at lots pictures of Lisa Frank school supplies from the ’90s.
And covering my phone in Lisa Frank stickers.

I may not have a newfangled smartphone like all the kids these days (who can get phone cases on Etsy), but I can still decorate my electronics. Continue reading
Friday links, 11/2/12

Even fence-posts need to stay warm when the weather gets chilly.
I’ve got lots and lots of links for you today, to tide you over for the next month. (And I’m freaking out a little…I love writing but I have so much resistance to get past. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to push through it.)
More Sandy-related links (earlier links here)
–Helping victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
–Why Sandy matters to the election.
-First responders = amazing. If you can, go hug one.
-How to donate and volunteer responsibly.
-NASA warned New York about hurricane danger six years ago.
-The hideous inequality exposed by the hurricane. (This sounds familiar…it’s almost like a similar disaster, with similarly worse effects on poor people, happened in another major city seven years ago.)
-From the Onion: Nation suddenly realizes this just going to be a thing that happens from now on.

A Hello Kitty pumpkin!
Fa(t)shion
-Exciting news: Fatshion blogger Jessica Dee is starting a clothing line! And it’s full of shiny things.
–Nicole and Damien’s gothic handfasting Halloween party – the outfits are amazing.
–My top is not out of control.
-Kath of Fat Heffalump gives an example of how not to market to fat customers, and offers to help plus size fashion companies get it right.
–Color crush: galactic silver. Love!
-Incredibly gorgeous floral clothing.
–Suit or Sari? On professionalism and “ethnic” dressing.

More late ’90s/early 00’s catalog nostalgia: Delia*s
Liked my scans from Alloy and Girlfriends LA? Here are a few more, from Delia*s.
I had a mixed relationship with Delia*s–for the longest time, they carried only up to size 13. Eventually, they did expand their size range on some clothing, but I’ll always think of them as the first catalog I both loved and felt completely excluded from.
Now, so many years later, I can look back and enjoy the fashion, with only a twinge of remembering that feeling.

More old-school collage nostalgia
Remember those collages I posted a while back? I have a few more of them, on my fridge. They’re faded from exposure to the sun, but oh well.
I like how they still reflect my style so well, years later.

I want those pyramid stud MaryJanes. And the pink zipper tie.

Flashback: Alloy
It’s time for more late ’90s/early ’00s catalog nostalgia!
Alloy had only a limited selection of plus sizes at some times (and, from the last few times I’ve checked their website, the amount of plus-size clothing varies from decent to nearly nothing). My nostalgia for them, like Delia*s, is mixed with that shitty feeling of being left out–but it’s nostalgia nonetheless.

Rainbow stovepipe jeans, how I wish you were still a thing.
Flashback: wide-leg jeans
As I mentioned not long ago, I have a special love for the wide-leg, skater-style jeans of the late ’90s.
On a recent trip to my parents’ house, I dug up a few pictures of myself wearing my beloved pair. Please ignore the terrible bangs, and the stoned-looking expression I have in one of the pictures. Come to think of it, ignore the baggy tie-dye t-shirt as well. Just focus on the sheer beauty of those pants.

I had the posing thing down.
