OOTD and Honk! Festival

This weekend, Steve and I went to Honk!, a festival of activist marching bands. We didn’t stay long,  because unfortunately both of us got overwhelmed by the crowds. But we enjoyed a bit of walking around and listening to the music.

Also, it was a good excuse to get all dressed up (not that I need an excuse). There are not many times when it’s easy to blend into a crowd while wearing rainbow clip-in bangs, striped knee socks, and a spike necklace, but this is one of them. Another one is probably Burning Man, which I hope to attend someday.

Top: Tripp NYC via fatshionxchange, skirt: a vendor at NEFFA, clip-in bangs: I Kick Shins, knee socks: Domino Dollhouse, sneakers: Sugar Shoes via eBay (back in college), pyramid stud wristband: PacSun, round stud wristband: Macy’s, tiny hat and rose ponytail holders: Claire’s, hairclips: a bunch of different places, spike necklace: eBay

While taking outfit pictures, we met an adorable, friendly kitty!

A weekend in pictures: NYC

My recent post about visiting Re/Dress NYC brought back great memories of that trip. So I decided to post a few pictures of it, even though they’re from last year.

I hope I can make it back to New York sometime soon!

First meal in the city: pizza and garlic knots

Sailors!

Ode to Re/Dress NYC

Last summer, I went to New York to visit a friend. One of the places we went was Re/Dress NYC, a plus-size store that carried new, vintage, and resale clothing.

I’m really glad I had the chance to go there before it sadly closed a few months later. I wish it were still open (and I really wish there were something like it in Boston!), but at least I had the opportunity to experience its awesomeness.

It was such an amazing feeling to walk into a store and be able to try on almost anything. To look through all the racks instead of just the one or two labeled “plus size.” To be part of a fun, friendly, fat-positive environment.

The anticipation…

Contra prom!

I’ve been meaning to post these for a while–here they are, finally! These pictures are from contra prom, an annual event at my local contra dance.

What is contra, you may ask? No, it’s not a videogame, and there are no Nicaraguan guerillas involved. It’s a type of folk dance, which you can learn more about here.

The contra prom is a a regular dance where everyone dresses up for fun. It’s a great excuse to get all fancy, admire everyone else’s outfits, and take pictures. All of these were taken by my fellow dancer and awesome photographer, Jeremy Perlman.

Lots and lots of pictures below the cut!

A Day in Pictures: My 27th birthday party

Today is my birthday! Huzzah!

I had a party on Saturday, which consisted of 1.) hanging out at my place (originally supposed to be a beach party, but it was rainy and cold), 2.) dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, and 3.) hanging out at my place again, dressed as characters from Firefly. There was Cards Against Humanity, a Dr. Horrible singalong, and much general merriment. The hanging-outage continued into the next day with an informal brunch, dinner, and Spaceballs-watching.

In summary: my friends are wonderful, creative, and geeky. I am lucky to have such awesome people in my life.

Yup, that’s a Hello Kitty tiara. $1 at Claire’s!

OOTD: Wings and Ponies

I’ve been sick lately, so I haven’t worn anything worth photographing. But here are some pictures of a fun outfit I wore a few months ago for some frolicking in the Arnold Arboretum.

My boyfriend and I are both huge fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (which, btw, is changing the definition of masculinity). He got me this Pinkie Pie shirt for Valentine’s Day, and made the Pinkie Pie cutie mark bottlecap necklace as part of my Hanukkah gift! You can’t really see the necklace in these pictures, but I’ll post a close-up soon. 🙂

I kind of aspire to be a woodland fairy when I grow up.
