I can’t hold it in any longer, so here it is: Steve and I are engaged! He proposed on Valentine’s Day in Central Park, at the top of a CASTLE.
Yes, there is a castle in Central Park. We had been to it two years ago–you can see the picture here–and decided to go up it again while wandering around. And then, after we had someone take the following picture of us, and after Steve took a few outfit pictures of me, he asked me to marry him! Eeeeeeeeee!
After descending from the castle, we continued to walk around Central Park, where we saw an incredibly talented singing group and opera singer performing, and then came across an ice festival. It was all so serendipitous and romantic.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, here are my outfit pictures, and a few pictures from the day’s adventures around New York. I tried to put together an outfit that would be cute and Valentine’s-appropriate, but also comfortable and warm enough for walking around all day in the cold. This skirt is perfect for winter, as it has a thick layer of gray velvet underneath the lilac lace. My snow sneakers are also great: they look like sneakers, but are insulated and waterproof like snow boots.
Coat: really old, from Marshall’s, skirt: Chubby Cartwheels via Re/Dress, leggings: Domino Dollhouse, top: thrifted, shrug: SimplyBe, purse: LeSportSac via eBay, tote bag: Flip & Tumble via Amazon, hairclip: Crown & Glory, jewelry: So Good, snow sneakers: L.L. Bean
The top of the castle was a perfect spot for pictures, among other things! 😉
Walking around Central Park is my favorite part of any NYC trip–there’s nothing like a bit of nature within a city. This mostly-frozen waterfall was especially beautiful.
Earlier in the day, we dropped by a dog park that was near our hotel, and I got to meet so many adorable pups! This bulldog was the sweetest–he kept jumping up to give me hugs.
This 13-year old golden retriever mix was a total sweetie too.
For brunch, we went to Sarabeth’s, where we were surprisingly able to get in with only a few minutes’ wait. I had an amazing Four Flowers juice, which was made of orange, pineapple, banana, and pomegranate juices.
And a delicious veggie omelet with a pumpkin muffin! Breakfast food is the best.
There will be more pictures of our NYC adventures to come soon! I am so excited, you guys. 😀
Congratulations!
How long did you stay in NY?
Thanks! We were there Friday night through Monday afternoon. I had originally planned to stay the rest of the week by myself and visit friends, but I ended up coming back to Boston with Steve (which was just as well, because I had fewer vacation days than I’d originally had anyway, as I’ve had to use vacation days when I couldn’t get into work because of the snow).
Congrats!
Thanks!
Congratulations!

Aaaww, mazeltov, Laura! What lovely news!
Congratulations, Laura! That’s great, great news! Steve sure knew how to plan a proposal, asking you atop a castle on Valentine’s Day. It suits your personality so well and gives us a glimpse into who you are as a couple. How very sweet and special!
